I am Not a Wedding Photographer

On occasion I’m asked to photograph people and events outside of sports photography. Some requests are best left to specialists in that genre - and I’ll always try to refer clients on wherever I can. But weddings and births are two instances I make allowances for, with some T&Cs in place.

As the heading reads, I am not a wedding photographer. And I am not a birth photographer. But I am a significant events photographer (that specialises in sport). I can’t think of two more significant events than weddings and births.

The T&Cs are simple really. I’m work with no-fuss principles and I charge according to time and skill. To keep prices as low as possible, the less time I’m involved the less expensive the end price.

This means for weddings there is little preamble and a lot of trust. I rely on the wedding couple to provide me with a run sheet with the essentials and I expect to have free rein with creativity. There’s a quick chat beforehand and I ask any questions I need in order to do my best job. Photography at two locations is included in the price, and couples normally choose the ceremony and reception venues. This means that if the bride wants photographs as she is getting ready, or if the wedding party photography is somewhere other than the ceremony or reception location, this is outside of my scope and an additional photographer is required. A tonne of quality, sharp imagery capturing the action of the day and a video collage of the images set to music is provided within four weeks of the event date. Prices start from $1995 for 4 hours with an additional $250 per hour thereafter to a maximum of 8 hours.

Births are not so predictable. I am on call from 37 weeks and my diary is tailored around the impending event. It’s impossible to calculate, and it means I sacrifice taking on other work. That’s one reason why pricing is what it is. The longest birth saw me leave home at 3:30am and return the following morning at 1:30am - 22 hours of work with editing time on top. But the return is priceless.

Birth photography ensures lasting memories of the most incredible moment when life enters this world. Birth photos are to be treasured not just for the parents, but also for the child will appreciate knowing that they were loved and wanted so much to have the moment of their arrival recorded professionally. I will provide:

  • Initial meeting with you and your partner. Together we discuss what you can expect and any questions you may have. It’s important that you feel comfortable with me and trust me as your photographer. Contact me as often as you like leading up to the birth.

  • I will be on call from 37 weeks. I accept very few bookings per year to minimise the likelihood of your labour coinciding with that of another of my clients. I have back-up photographers I can call on in the unlikely event I am unable to attend your event.

  • Unlimited hours of photography to document the birth of your baby, capturing all aspects from the early stages of labour through to 2 hours post delivery.

  • A sneak peak of 10 images will be sent within 12 hours.

  • Also within 12 hours, you will receive via text 2 Digital Birth Announcement Designs formatted for sharing to social media and texting to your family and friends. Both designs will include baby's birth details and a photo of your beautiful newborn. You choose the one you like best!

  • 2 Online Galleries. The first gallery is suitable for sharing with family and friends. The second gallery is private, with access privileges set to you only, comprising the more personal moments of your birth story. In total you will receive approximately 200 high resolution images. All images available for downloading and sharing at your discretion. Delivered within 2 weeks.

  • Slide Show of Images set to music, available for download and sharing to social media. Delivered within 2 weeks.
